Long overdue: Major Quakes hit Northern California (5.6M), Venezuela (7.5, 7.2), and Japan (6.9M) all in one day, major damage following the 7.5M

Today, California experienced 59 earthquakes in just 24 hours, with the largest a magnitude 5.6 near Potter Valley.

The first magnitude 5.6 struck about 7 miles out from Willits in northern California, just after 8 a.m., and was felt all the way down in Fresno.

The jolt cut power to more than 6,000 residents, and according to Heather Rose, a Mendocino County spokesperson, hospitals reported injuries.

A short-lived tsunami advisory for locales was issued in Venezuela for those close to the coast.

The epicentres of the quakes were 24 kilometres east-northeast of San Felipe, Venezuela (7.2 magnitude), and 16 kilometres southwest of Morón, Venezuela (7.5 magnitude), according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake also launched a brief tsunami advisory for Puerto Rico, and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, but was then lifted.

According to USGS, regions that may have felt shaking from the earthquake include Colombia, Venezuela, Caribbean Netherlands, Curaçao, and Aruba.

One person in Caracas said cracks had formed up the side of their apartment and glass in the entryway had shattered, Reuters reported.

There have been reports of major damage to buildings in Caracas.

Literally right after this, only 30 minutes after the second Venezuelan tremor, a major, 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck 35 kilometres east-northeast of Kuji, Japan, according to the USGS.
